Emphasizing the fact that "Ten prisons could be closed down by opening just one school", the Chief Minister of the Uva Province Hon. Shasheendra Rajapaksa, in his capacity as the Minister of Education of the Uva Province declared opened a new primary school in the name of Ethiliwewa Chandawimala Primary School in the Wellawaya Educational Zone and vested in the children of Uva on Feb 06, 2013.The land to build this school was donated by Sri Chandrabimbarama Viharaya of Ethiliwewa and the construction of the school was assisted by the Chief Minister, leading politicians and businessmen of the area, plus the parents.
On the day of the opening, under the first phase, 147 children received admission to Grades 01 & 02 and at present, the management of the school has been taken over by the Uva Provincial Council.
During the opening ceremony of the new school, many other schools in the Monaragala district received various other resources in kind worth over Rs. 10 million, from the Chief Minister Hon. Shasheendra Rajapaksa, for development activities of those schools.
