Private Secretary to His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka
Shasheendra Rajapaksa has always been one of the few closest confidants of His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa, the President of Sri Lanka. Young Shasheendra was first chosen by Honourable Mahinda Rajapaksa MP as his Private Secretary way back in 2002, when he became the Leader of the Opposition in the Sri Lankan Parliament.
Shasheendra was chosen once again to perform the duties in the same capacity after the Leader of the Opposition was selected by the United People's Freedom Alliance to be the new Prime Minister of the country in 2004.
Shasheendra was obviously a prominent key player in the presidential election campaign in 2005, in which HE Mahinda Rajapaksa became the 5th President of Sri Lanka after gaining a resounding victory by winning the hearts and minds of the people.
Shasheendra once again was the number one choice of the new President to be his Private Secretary. When His Excellency the President won the landmark election in 2010, a presidential election held in a united and liberated Sri Lanka after many years of uncertainty and chaos, the President decided to invite Shasheendra to continue as his Private Secretary and Shasheendra discharges his duties in this capacity to the utmost satisfaction of HE the President, despite his extremely rigorous line of heavy responsibilities as the Uva Chief Minister and the Basnayake Nilame of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Dewalaya.
In the new capacity, Shasheendra maintains an office at the Presidential Secretariat, which deals with following up solutions to the difficulties, members of the public sometimes face at state organizations. It has thus become an effective link between the people and numerous state agencies. Shasheendra has over the years become the guiding force for the staff at his office at the Presidential Secretariat that anyone calling there goes away relieved and with renewed hope.
